An accomplished musician and composer as well as an audacious inventor and editor, Ignaz Pleyel, freed the
musical universe and brought it into the modernity of the nineteenth century. Driven by a passion for piano and
keen to adapt the instrument to the requirements of musicians and composers, this genius created the
Pleyel
manufacturing plant in 1807.
Over time this pioneering spirit has continued; engineers and architectural acoustic have followed one another
at the head of the Pleyel universe.
Bringing together tradition and modernity, quality of craftsmanship and inventiveness of musical discovery,
aesthetics and harmonious performance, Pleyel has stood out as “the” master in instrument making. Pleyel,
throughout its history and through its philosophy and influence, has breathed life into pianos giving them a very
personal and emotional tone, particularly suited to romantic music.
Today, Pleyel is synonymous with refinement throughout the world. This reputation is based on two hundred
years of history. Since the discovery of Frederic Chopin in 1832 by Camille Pleyel, the invention by Auguste
Wolff of the upright piano and the construction of the Salle Pleyel in Paris in 1927, Pleyel has always played a
major role in the music world.
